Fake rental listings and advance-payment scams are common on classified sites and social media. The good news: a few simple checks will protect you. Here are seven we recommend before paying anyone, including us.
1. Ask for a live video
Photos can be copied from anywhere. Ask the host to send a short video or do a video call showing the room right now. Genuine hosts will do this happily.
2. Check for a CNIC policy
A host who asks for your CNIC at check-in is following the law and keeping other guests safe. A place that does not care who walks in is a warning sign.
3. Confirm the exact location
Ask for a Google Maps pin before you travel. Make sure it is inside a secure area such as a gated community.
4. Read real reviews
Look for a Google Business Profile with reviews from different people over time. A brand-new page with only five-star reviews posted on the same day is suspicious.
5. Never send a large advance to an unknown number
A small booking advance on peak dates is normal. Being asked for the full amount before you have seen anything is not.
6. Get prices in writing
Ask for the total price, what it includes (electricity, AC, breakfast) and the check-out time, all in a WhatsApp message you can refer back to.
7. Know the cancellation rules
Ask what happens if your plans change. A clear cancellation policy shows a professional operation.
How TwinCity Appartments meets these checks
We share live videos on request, check CNICs, send location pins, publish fixed prices on our website and accept payment on arrival for most bookings. See our cancellation policy for details.
